The Hockey Barn, a new training complex founded by Kyle Kinzie, is slated to open its doors in the Alpharetta area near Milton in early‑to‑mid June, promising a fresh approach to hockey development in Georgia.
Kinzie, who grew up playing on the ponds of Buffalo before honing his game in Ohio, says his philosophy centers on loving the game, the environment, and personal growth as much as skill acquisition.
The facility’s core pillars — Train, Compete, and Belong — are reflected in a curriculum that blends guided play, creativity and competition‑driven development, and it is underpinned by Kinzie’s recently published book *What Are We Playing For?*
Prospective members will experience a curated onboarding process that includes a ‘signing day’ ceremony, designed to welcome families and individuals who want to contribute to the barn’s culture.
Leadership with Georgia Roots
The leadership team reads like a who’s who of Georgia hockey: Zach Yoder, a veteran of collegiate and professional play, will head player development; Logan Stein will oversee goalie coaching and mentorship; and Austin Magera will serve as a player development coach and pro ambassador.
Kinzie believes the state’s hockey ecosystem has ample room to grow, especially in retaining players, and he hopes the barn’s model will attract attention from the NHL as a grassroots expansion hub.
With the Atlanta Gladiators and the Fort Wayne Komets already on board as partners, the venture aims to create accessible entry points and foster a vibrant community that could reshape the sport’s footprint in the Southeast.
