A Homecoming for a Champion
Zack Schilawski, a former national champion and All‑American at Wake Forest, has rejoined the Demon Deacons as an assistant coach and director of player development, bringing a decade‑plus blend of playing excellence and coaching acumen.
During his collegiate career from 2006 to 2010, Schilawski was a cornerstone of the 2007 championship squad, netting the decisive goal in the College Cup final against Ohio State that secured the program’s first national title.
After being selected ninth overall in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution, he made immediate impact, scoring five goals in his rookie season and becoming the first MLS rookie to record a hat trick in his home debut, before later playing for the Carolina RailHawks.
His professional journey eventually led him to a law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law and practice in family law, experiences that have enriched his perspective on player development and mentorship.
Most recently, Schilawski guided the University of Pittsburgh to the 2024 ACC Regular Season Championship and a run to the NCAA Quarterfinals, a feat that underscores his ability to elevate programs, a skill he will now apply back at Wake Forest alongside head coach Bobby Muuss and associate head coach Michael Sullivan.
