Carson Long Takes the Helm of Huntingdon Men's Basketball
Huntingdon College announced this week that Carson Long will serve as the new head coach of the men’s basketball program, tapping a familiar face who has already left an indelible mark on the campus.
Long’s résumé reads like a masterclass in winning. After a standout playing career at Guilford College — where he earned three all‑conference honors, was named Male Athlete of the Year in 2017, and helped the team capture an ODAC title and reach the NCAA Elite Eight in 2019 — he transitioned to coaching. His most recent stop was an assistant role at Hampden‑Sydney College, where he contributed to three straight NCAA tournament appearances.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Long is celebrated for his student‑centered approach. He believes that athletic excellence and academic growth are intertwined, a philosophy that resonates with the college’s broader mission. His wife, Bryce Long, will also join the campus community, underscoring the personal investment the couple has in the institution.
President Dr. Anthony Leigh, along with Athletic Director Eric Levanda, expressed confidence that Long’s blend of competitive drive and mentorship will elevate the program. “Carson embodies the values we cherish at Huntingdon — integrity, excellence, and a commitment to developing young men both on and off the court,” Levanda said in the announcement.
