North Quincy High School has appointed Greg Sommers as its new varsity football head coach, tapping a familiar alum who left the program over a decade ago to return as its leader.
A Homecoming for a Familiar Face
Sommers, a 2002 graduate of the school, comes back after stints as an assistant at both North Quincy and Quincy High, where he helped shape programs that have produced winning records in other sports.
In addition to his coaching duties, he has spent 19 years as an educator within the Quincy Public Schools, most recently serving as Dean of Students at North Quincy, giving him an intimate understanding of the student body and school culture.
His most recent challenge was leading the Quincy High softball team for ten years, a tenure that underscored his ability to develop talent and manage diverse programs.
The Raiders have not posted a winning season since 2010, a drought that has lingered despite occasional flashes of competitiveness, such as a 5‑5 record in 2021 and a 4‑7 finish in 2025 that placed them 116th in the state rankings.
Sommers inherits a squad that finished the 2025 campaign with a 4‑7 record, a team he hopes to reshape through a blend of experienced players and fresh strategies.
Fans and community members alike are watching closely, hoping that the coach’s deep roots and instructional background will translate into a resurgence for the program.
