Emilis Butkus Joins Fighting Camels, Brings Size and Scoring Prowess

The 6‑6 guard aims to make an immediate impact for Campbell's men's basketball team

A New Chapter for the Fighting Camels

Campbell University announced the addition of Emilis Butkus, a 6‑6 guard whose blend of size, skill and shooting range promises to reshape the team's offensive dynamics. The move follows a medical redshirt year at Mercyhurst, where he honed his physical conditioning and refined his shooting mechanics.

Butkus arrives after a collegiate journey that took him from UC Irvine to Midland College and finally to Rollins College, where he emerged as the program's leading scorer. Over 29 games for the Tars he averaged 17.7 points per game, shooting 52 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc, while also pulling down 4.7 rebounds and dishing out 2.2 assists.

Coach Jimmie Williams highlighted the player's immediate impact, noting that Butkus's ability to guard multiple positions and stretch the floor will open up new tactical options for the Camels. "His size and skill set are exactly what we need to compete at a higher level," Williams said in the announcement.

The guard's scoring consistency was evident when he recorded double‑digit points in 28 of 29 games, culminating in a career‑high 27‑point performance against Eckerd. His reputation grew enough to earn a spot on the All‑Sunshine State Conference third team in 2025, a testament to his impact in the league.

Butkus's background also includes a brief stint at UC Irvine in 2022‑23, where he logged just two minutes per game, and a year at Midland College in 2023‑24, experiences that have equipped him with a diverse skill set and a resilient mindset. As he steps onto the court in Buies Creek, the Fighting Camels hope his proven scoring touch and defensive versatility will translate into more wins for the program.
