Florida State’s 2027 Recruiting Class Hits a Snag as Top Wide Receiver Delays Commitment

Jabari Watkins' decision to postpone his pledge underscores a thin commitment pool for the Seminoles

The Florida State Seminoles have managed just a single verbal commitment since February, leaving their 2027 recruiting class with limited momentum as they sit at No. 39 in the national rankings with six pledges to date.

Four‑star wide receiver Jabari Watkins, once slated to tour Tallahassee, canceled his official visit and instead expressed gratitude toward the coaching staff, stating that he holds no hard feelings toward the program.

Watkins has announced that he will reveal his final decision on July 1, and in the meantime he is scheduled to take official trips to Louisville, Arkansas and Georgia Tech, each of which could shape his ultimate choice.

During his junior season at Thomas County Central, Watkins recorded 55 receptions for 847 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning him the No. 253 overall prospect ranking and the No. 34 spot among wide receivers in the 2027 class.

What the delay means for the Seminoles

The postponement of Watkins' commitment adds a layer of uncertainty to a class that already leans on a modest number of pledges, forcing the Seminoles to intensify their outreach and evaluate alternative targets as they aim to climb the rankings before the next recruiting cycle.
