William Fleming High School in Roanoke has named Zach Quest as its new athletic director, while longtime coach Zack Leonard will take the helm of the football program.
Quest, a math teacher at the school since 2017 and the Colonels’ boys varsity soccer coach since 2020, also played collegiate soccer at Emory & Henry College. He says his goal is to nurture student‑athletes in competition, classroom, character and accountability.
Leonard, a Patrick Henry High School graduate who returned to Roanoke City Public Schools after stints at Christiansburg, Rural Retreat, Glenvar and Blacksburg high schools, brings 15 years of coaching and teaching experience. At Blacksburg he ended a 29‑game losing streak, guided the team to its first playoff appearance since 2019 and swelled the roster by 71 percent, while launching a youth football camp that boosted participation by 140 percent.
A new era for Colonels athletics
The leadership changes come as the school looks to expand its sports offerings and deepen student development, reinforcing a commitment to the community it serves.
