A Small Town's Historic Ascent
Jourdanton baseball, a program long known for grinding through early‑season setbacks, has just etched its name into Texas sports lore by reaching the UIL state semifinals for the first time in school history.
Head coach Edward Ruiz, a 2015 graduate of the same campus and a former four‑year starter at catcher, has guided the team with a philosophy that blends mental discipline with a genuine love of the game.
The Road to Georgetown
The team will face Franklin in a best‑of‑three series at Georgetown’s East View this weekend, with Game 1 scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Game 2 at the same hour Friday and a potential third contest at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Should they win, the victors will meet either Wall or Paradise next Thursday at 7 p.m. at Dell Diamond in the state finals, a venue that has hosted many of Texas’ most memorable baseball moments.
Stars Shining Bright
Sophomore twins Ryan and Ryder Aguilar have become the backbone of the rotation, with Ryan boasting a 1.65 ERA over 63 ⅔ innings and Ryder closing out the final Hallettsville contest with poise.
Center fielder Braden Griego leads the offense with 42 hits, 43 runs and a .365 batting average, while seniors Reid Powell and Caden Harter also sit above the .300 mark, providing steady guidance to the younger roster.
Beyond statistics, the senior class has taken on the role of mentors, instilling a culture of focus and composure that Ruiz says is the true engine behind the team’s unexpected run.
As the community rallies behind the squad, the excitement is palpable, and the players are savoring every moment of a journey that could culminate in a championship that would echo through the streets of Jourdanton for generations.
