A recent graduation ceremony brought together nineteen student‑athletes from Real Salt Lake, Utah Royals FC and Salt Lake Academy, marking a milestone that blended academic accomplishment with soccer development. The event, held in Utah, underscored the organization’s commitment to nurturing talent both on the field and in the classroom.
Honoring Academic and Athletic Excellence
Will Mackay was named valedictorian while Rowan Martin earned the title of salutatorian, reflecting the high standards set for scholarship and leadership. Their recognition was part of a broader commendation that praised the graduates for excellence in academics, citizenship and soccer performance.
Seven of the graduates will enroll at universities this fall, including institutions such as Loyola Marymount University, the University of Virginia, the University of Michigan, Stanford University, Utah Tech University, Duke University and the University of Utah. Others will pursue gap‑year plans or continue their professional careers, with RSL‑contracted players slated to feature in upcoming competitions.
Pathways Beyond the Academy
The ceremony also highlighted the upcoming MLS NEXT Cup Quarterfinal, where Real Monarchs will face Columbus Crew, providing a platform for the next generation of talent to showcase their abilities. In addition, KK Ream, recognized as the youngest goalscorer in NWSL history, was celebrated as a role model for aspiring players.
Salt Lake Academy, a tuition‑free public charter high school in Herriman, Utah, played a pivotal role in preparing these athletes for both academic rigor and competitive soccer. The school’s partnership with major clubs and universities illustrates a model that integrates education with elite sport development.
