A wave of excitement rippled through Syracuse High School this spring as five senior players signed letters of intent to continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level. The group, which helped the school capture a berth in the 6A state semifinals during the 2025‑26 campaign, each earned recognition for their contributions on the court.
A New Chapter for Local Talent
Maylee Anderson, the 2026 Standard‑Examiner All‑Area Girls Basketball Player of the Year, will take her talents to Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. Anderson posted a season average of 17.8 points per 32 minutes, ranking sixth within Utah and 329th nationally, and her all‑around game should give the Trappers an immediate boost.
Joining Anderson at Northwest College are Rachel McBride, whose shooting efficiency climbed to a 46 % field‑goal rate over her final two seasons, and Karsyn Visser, a versatile forward who averaged 6.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in her senior year. Both players will remain in Wyoming, where they will compete for the same program.
Olivia Sorenson, who contributed 6.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game as a senior, has chosen to continue her education and basketball journey at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. She will do so under the guidance of former Utah Valley coach Michael Shreeve, who has assembled a promising frontcourt for the Badgers.
Zaydie Peterson, another key contributor, has committed to the NAIA program at Walla Walla University in College Place, Washington, where she will look to translate her high school success into a new competitive environment.
The diverse destinations reflect not only the individual ambitions of each recruit but also the growing pipeline of talent emerging from Syracuse’s basketball program. With coaching staff members such as Braden Hamblin and Michael Shreeve playing pivotal roles in player development, the community expects more milestones in the years ahead.
