Landon Swanson Secures Scholarship at Central Michigan University

From Charlevoix wrestling champion to CMU tight end, the athlete’s perseverance earns a full scholarship.

Landon Swanson, a Charlevoix native who once dominated the wrestling mat and excelled on the football field, has earned a scholarship to play at Central Michigan University.

At Charlevoix High School he captured a state wrestling title and attracted attention for his athletic versatility, eventually joining the CMU program as a preferred walk‑on.

During his redshirt freshman season he switched roles multiple times, moving from linebacker to defensive end before finding a new home on offense as a tight end and H‑back, a transition that required both physical transformation and a deeper grasp of the game.

A Coach’s Recognition

Head coach Matt Drinkall recently informed Swanson that a full scholarship would become available, a moment that sparked renewed vigor in the young athlete, who responded by hitting the weight room with fresh energy.

Back in Charlevoix, Swanson has been mentoring current Rayder football players, sharing the lessons he has learned and preparing for the next chapter.

He is set to return to CMU the first week of June to join summer workouts and fall camp, ready to contribute on the offensive side of the ball.
