Brown University has named David Mitchell as its new Operations Coordinator for the men's ice hockey program, tapping a recent graduate whose hands‑on experience at the University of Massachusetts has already made a mark on the sport.
A strategic hire for the Bears
During his tenure as a Hockey Operations Intern under Head Coach Thomas Upton, Mitchell oversaw the capture and analysis of game and practice footage, compiled in‑game statistics, and produced post‑game reports that helped the team refine its strategies.
His responsibilities also extended to logistics, where he coordinated travel itineraries, meal plans and event scheduling, ensuring that the Minutemen’s campaign — highlighted by a 2024‑25 NCAA Tournament berth and a run to the Fargo Regional Final — ran smoothly off the ice.
A native of Hanover, Massachusetts, Mitchell earned a bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in business in December 2025, a combination of analytical rigor and practical know‑how that he now brings to Brown.
Beyond his operational duties, Mitchell served as an exam proctor for students with disabilities, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive support that aligns with the university’s broader values.
Athletic directors say his blend of statistical insight, logistical acumen and community‑focused mindset positions the Bears to elevate their program both competitively and administratively as they look ahead to the next season.
