St. Mary’s Ryken High School has announced the appointment of Marcus Crawford as its new head coach for the girls basketball program, marking a strategic move aimed at elevating the program’s competitiveness and culture.
A Coach With a Proven Track Record
Crawford arrives after a transformative stint at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School in Florida, where he turned a 3‑14 team into a 14‑9 contender in his inaugural season. Under his guidance, the squad posted a 3.95 grade point average, underscoring his commitment to academic accountability alongside athletic performance.
His coaching journey also includes a tenure as an assistant with the women’s basketball program at Saint Leo University, as well as roles at Trinity Collegiate School and on the Nike EYBL circuit with Team Durant, experiences that have honed his ability to develop talent at the high school and collegiate levels.
Crawford holds a Master of Business Administration from Saint Leo University and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Clemson University. He will join the Ryken faculty as an English teacher, blending his academic background with his passion for mentorship.
Vision for the Ryken Program
The new coach plans to establish a distinct identity built around player development, a strong team culture, and long‑term success. He will lead the Gators into the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, aiming to compete at the highest level while fostering discipline and accountability among his athletes.
Athletic Director Sister Jane Doe praised Crawford’s blend of coaching acumen and educational commitment, stating that his leadership aligns perfectly with the school’s mission to develop well‑rounded young women.
