Danish ice‑hockey governing body Danmarks Ishockey Union (DIU) has announced that blockchain platform Concordium will serve as its Official AI Partner for the upcoming 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland.
AI‑Driven Fan Engagement
The alliance will focus on two initiatives built on Concordium’s AI infrastructure: a Verified Fan Programme that leverages zero‑knowledge proof technology to confirm ticket authenticity, and an Agentic Commerce framework designed to streamline interactions between supporters and digital merchandise.
Varun Kabra, Chief Growth Officer at Concordium, explained that agents operating at scale require a verified identity and reliable settlement rails, adding that Concordium’s protocol offers exactly that.
Michael Dupont, CEO of Danmarks Ishockey Union, said the partnership was identified by asking what the federation could build together with a technology partner that shares its ambition to modernise fan experiences.
Brand Visibility and Token Settlement
Concordium’s branding will appear on the helmets and jerseys of the Danish national team, giving the sport a high‑profile digital presence throughout the tournament.
The full partnership fee has been settled on‑chain using CCD, Concordium’s native token, with a twelve‑month lock‑up enforced at the protocol level, ensuring that the federation retains full self‑custody of the funds.
The 2025 IIHF World Championship attracted a cumulative live television audience of 215 million viewers and generated 25.6 billion event impressions across 155 territories, underscoring the global reach that the 2026 edition is expected to match or exceed.
