Panel Upholds Penalty
NASCAR’s National Motorsports Appeals Panel has confirmed the 25‑point and $50,000 sanction imposed on Ryan Preece for the incident at Texas Motor Speedway.
The penalty stemmed from Preece’s on‑track collision with Ty Gibbs during the Cup Series race, an incident that prompted an immediate review by series officials.
In a two‑to‑one vote, the panel rejected RFK Racing’s appeal, concluding that the evidence did not demonstrate a clear error in the original ruling and noted that Preece’s post‑race comments suggested he had not given Gibbs any leniency.
As a result of the upheld penalty, Preece remains positioned 16th in the championship standings, a spot that keeps him just outside the playoff cutoff but still within striking distance of a Chase berth.
Preece said he will shift his focus to the upcoming races, aiming to string together consistent finishes that could finally secure a spot in the season‑ending playoffs.
