Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s women’s basketball program received a boost as head coach Samantha Quigley Smith revealed the signing of Tyra Robinson, a 6‑foot‑3 forward, for the upcoming 2025‑26 season. The announcement came during a press conference where Smith emphasized the player’s blend of size, experience and defensive versatility.
Robinson’s collegiate career spans two notable programs. At Missouri State she logged 1.6 points per game over two seasons while contributing seven blocked shots, showcasing a defensive presence that complemented her modest offensive output. A year later, as a true freshman at Western Carolina, she posted 3.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game, adding to her shot‑blocking tally before moving on to her most recent stint.
The Cougars finished the previous campaign with 16 victories and a second‑round appearance in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, a milestone that has set high expectations for the next season. Robinson will join a group of recent transfers that includes Riley Abney, Giselle Dogan and Pryelle Kesse‑Beda, forming a core of newcomers aimed at sustaining the program’s upward trajectory.
In addition to Robinson, the team revealed four early signees in November — Brooke Blakenship, Jayla McClinton, Alex Nicastro and Taylor Trame — signaling a busy offseason of roster construction.
