A Fresh Face in Player Development
Tennessee basketball announced this week that Chris Parker has been appointed to the role of assistant director of player development, a move that underscores the program’s commitment to expanding its support staff with seasoned talent.
Parker’s journey to Knoxville has been marked by international experience and collegiate success. After playing professionally in the Proliga in Portugal and the Georgia Super League, he returned to the U.S. where he led Liberty to an Atlantic Sun Conference championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2021, averaging 10.3 points and 3.4 assists during his college career.
From Graduate Assistant to Volunteer Coach
Prior to his new position, Parker served as a graduate assistant at TCU, where he contributed to recruiting pipelines and player development strategies. He replaces Riley Collins, who has moved on to an assistant coaching role at NC State, and his hiring was praised by head coach Rick Barnes, who cited Parker’s diverse background and passion for the sport.
Parker said he is excited to join the Tennessee program and to help the Volunteers pursue championships. “I’m looking forward to contributing to a culture that values growth and competition,” he remarked.
The addition of Parker reflects a broader strategy within the Volunteers’ basketball operations to blend proven playing experience with modern development methodologies. As the team looks ahead to the upcoming season, the new staff member is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping player growth both on and off the court.
