Sharks Sign German Defender Phillip Sinn to Two-Year Deal

The 22-year-old, who impressed in the DEL and internationally with Germany, joins San Jose's blue line

The San Jose Sharks announced today that they have signed German defenseman Phillip Sinn to a two-year entry-level contract, adding a promising young blueliner to their roster.

A German Presence in San Jose

At 22, Sinn spent the most recent season in Germany's top league, the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, where he appeared in 35 games for EHC Munchen and recorded three points — one goal and two assists.

His production placed him tied for sixth among under-22 defensemen in the league and led the U-22 blue-liners on his team, highlighting his rapid development in his debut DEL season.

Before that, Sinn also skated in seven games for ESV Kaufbeuren in the second tier, contributing four assists, and he logged 11 playoff appearances for EHC Munchen.

International Experience and Leadership

Internationally, Sinn has represented Germany at the 2026 World Championship, appearing in five games, and he has been a regular at the World Junior Championship in 2023 and 2024, where he posted seven points — two goals and five assists — across ten contests. He was also named captain of the German junior squad during the 2024 tournament.

Standing six feet two inches tall and weighing 194 pounds, the Mannheim native brings a blend of size and skill that the Sharks hope will translate into a larger role on the NHL stage.

What This Means for the Sharks

Coach Mike Grier praised the signing, noting that Sinn’s experience on the international stage and his leadership as captain at the junior level should provide depth and stability to the team’s defensive core.

The organization views the contract as a low-risk, high-reward addition, and fans can expect to see Sinn given opportunities to prove himself during the upcoming season.
