Tar Heels Set for Home NCAA Regional
The North Carolina Tar Heels are preparing to open their 38th NCAA Tournament by hosting a regional at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, marking the 14th time the program has staged a home regional since 2006.
The bracket will feature familiar ACC rivals Tennessee, East Carolina and VCU, each bringing a storied history to the competition, while the Tar Heels enter as the No. 5 national seed for the second straight year.
Defensive Excellence
Carolina’s defensive pedigree remains a cornerstone of its identity, boasting the ACC’s best fielding percentage at .982 and ranking ninth nationally with 52 double plays turned this season. The team’s discipline is reflected in a 16.38 Defensive Runs Saved rate posted by second‑baseman Gallaher, a metric that places him atop the national leaderboard.
Freshman right‑hander Caden Glauber has quickly become a linchpin of the rotation, posting a 9‑0 record and a 1.93 ERA that top all ACC freshmen. His emergence helped earn him the conference’s Freshman of the Year honor and underscores the depth of young talent on the roster.
Veteran Leadership
Coach Scott Forbes and veteran players such as Cliff Godwin, Josh Elander, Sean Thompson and Trent Thornton have guided the squad through a demanding schedule, while the program’s nine‑year streak of consecutive NCAA appearances remains the longest active run in the ACC.
With the regional underway, the Tar Heels aim to extend their tradition of home‑field dominance and push toward a Super Regional, a feat they have achieved 11 times from home venues over the past decade.
