Florida State University’s football program is intensifying its efforts to reshape the 2026 recruiting class, aiming to climb out of the lower tier of national rankings.
Head coach Mike Norvell, now in his fifth season, has emphasized that securing a higher‑rated class is essential for the Seminoles’ resurgence, especially after a season that left them with the worst recruiting class in the ACC.
A June Visit from a Mississippi Standout
Four‑star linebacker Frederrick Ford, a top prospect from Mississippi, is scheduled to arrive on campus from June 5 through June 7 for an official visit. The trip marks a critical juncture in Ford’s decision‑making process, as he has listed Florida State among his top five choices alongside several powerhouse programs.
Ford’s junior season was prolific: he recorded 60 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, eight pass deflections and three interceptions, earning him the No. 268 spot in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 21 ranking among linebackers nationwide. In his state, he stands as the tenth overall recruit for the 2027 class.
The Seminoles already hold six verbal commitments in the 2027 cycle and continue to cultivate depth at linebacker, where they return several experienced players for the upcoming season. The coaching staff hopes Ford’s visit will translate into a concrete pledge that bolsters their defensive recruiting narrative.
Beyond the immediate recruiting push, the visits underscore a broader strategy that blends on‑field performance with community engagement. By hosting key targets in Tallahassee, Florida State seeks to reinforce its identity as a destination for elite talent willing to develop under Norvell’s system.
