Wellsville Baseball Eyes Section V Title
Wellsville’s baseball team clinched a decisive 11‑1 victory over Bolivar‑Richburg/Cuba‑Rushford in the Section V Class B2 semifinals, earning a spot in the championship game.
A trio of pitchers combined to limit the opposition to just two hits, striking out 11 batters while walking only two, a performance that underscored the team’s dominance on the mound.
Offensively, senior Andrew Ordiway went 3‑for‑4 with three doubles and two RBI, while freshman Ben Helveston contributed a 3‑for‑4 effort, two doubles and three runs scored. Sophomore Karter Grover added two hits and two RBI, and senior Matt Ritter drove in two runs and crossed the plate twice.
Freshmen Drew Cowburn and Brennen Geffers each delivered RBI singles, and Trenton Green’s three‑run effort helped seal the win. The depth of production was evident as Tyler Rahr and Brayden Geffers also got on the scoresheet.
Coach John Anderson praised both his squad’s execution and the effort of their opponents, noting that the team’s focus and discipline were key factors in the win.
The finals are set for Saturday, May 30, when Wellsville will meet East Rochester. This marks the third consecutive year the Wildcats have reached the championship, having captured titles in 2024 and 2025, while the school’s softball program has enjoyed an even longer streak of six straight finals appearances.
