Gardner‑Webb University has named Samantha Thomsit as the new head coach of its women’s soccer program, tapping a coach whose recent work at Division II power Spring Hill College reshaped the program’s fortunes and caught the attention of the Big South Conference.
During her tenure at Spring Hill, Thomsit guided the team to 14 victories across the 2024 and 2025 seasons and led the program to its deepest postseason runs in school history, a turnaround that signaled readiness for a higher‑profile platform.
A Turnaround Coach Ready for the Next Challenge
Prior to that, she served as an assistant coach at the University of South Alabama from 2018 to 2021, contributing to Sun Belt regular‑season titles in 2019 and 2020 and gaining extensive experience across youth soccer environments in the United States and abroad.
Thomsit’s credentials include an FA Level 1 and a U.S. Soccer B‑license, as well as an NSCAA Level 2 Goalkeeping Diploma, and she played collegiately at Carson‑Newman University, where she earned a degree in Physical Education.
She will be joined at Gardner‑Webb by her husband, Walker, as the program looks to build on the momentum of a strong recruiting class and compete aggressively in the Big South.
