Sean Wheeler, the longest‑tenured and winningest baseball coach in Merrimack Valley history, has said he will step down after the 2026 season, bringing to a close a 24‑year run that has shaped countless players and the local sports community.
A Legacy Built on Teamwork
Throughout his career Wheeler emphasized that success on the diamond comes from collaboration, encouraging his athletes to support one another both in practice and in competition.
Final Home Game
The coach’s last home appearance ended in an 11‑4 loss to ConVal, but Wheeler said he left the field proud of the team’s positive attitude and relentless effort.
He highlighted the importance of teamwork, noting that the players’ willingness to lift each other up was the most rewarding part of the season.
Next Chapter
Wheeler will remain active in the school system, taking on a role as middle school athletics coordinator while also continuing his teaching duties. He and his wife are planning a vacation in Europe later this year.
Looking Forward
Though the retirement marks the end of an era, Wheeler says he feels optimistic about the future of the program and the next generation of coaches who will carry forward his philosophy of unity and support.
