The City of Escondido has teamed up with The Rinks Foundation to propose a new community ice complex at Kit Carson Park, a project designed to fill a long‑standing gap in year‑round ice sports access for North San Diego County.
Under the proposal, the nonprofit Rinks Foundation will fully fund and construct the facility, which will feature three ice sheets, a full‑service restaurant, and dedicated training spaces, creating a hub for both recreation and athlete development.
The complex is slated to host a variety of programs, including youth and adult hockey leagues, figure skating sessions, public skating hours, and special community events, while also serving as a practice venue for the San Diego Gulls of the AHL and providing home ice for the San Diego Jr. Gulls and local high school teams.
A Community‑Driven Ice Destination
City officials plan to present the proposal to the Escondido City Council at its June 3 meeting, after which a series of community meetings will be scheduled to gather resident feedback and refine the project before any ground is broken.
If approved, the development is expected to boost local economic activity by drawing visitors for tournaments and events, while expanding access to ice sports for a region that has long lacked dedicated facilities.
