Michigan State's hockey program announced a new addition to its coaching staff on Tuesday, as head coach Adam Nightingale confirmed the hiring of Andy Contois as an assistant coach.
Contois, a former standout for the Spartans, returns to the university after stints that include three seasons as associate head coach of the Youngstown Phantoms, where he helped the club capture the Clark Cup in 2022‑23, and assistant roles with the Indy Fuel and Central Illinois Flying Aces.
His coaching résumé also features a period at Northern Michigan University, where he previously served as an assistant ahead of the 2024‑25 season, and earlier work with the Brookings Blizzard.
A Familiar Reunion
Nightingale highlighted Contois's blend of playing experience and coaching acumen, noting that the former brings a deep understanding of the program's culture and a proven track record of player development.
Contois's playing days at Lake Superior State saw him share the ice with Nightingale, and he later led Northern Michigan in scoring during the 2004‑05 and 2005‑06 campaigns before embarking on a ten‑year professional career that took him across Europe and North America.
