The University of Iowa football program has named a 17‑member Leadership Council for the 2026 season, a group designed to help shape team policies and guide decision‑making on and off the field.
A blend of experience and youth
The council reflects a deliberate mix: one graduate student, seven seniors, seven juniors and two sophomores, each selected through a combination of coach evaluations and peer input.
Among the recognized names are Michael Myslinksi, Jack Dotzler, Cam Buffington and a host of other standouts such as Luke Gaffney, Will Hubert, Deshaun Lee, Jayden Montgomery, Kamari Moulton, Addison Ostrenga, Landyn Van Kekerix, Hank Brown, Trevor Lauck, Zach Lutmer, Kade Pieper, Reece Vander Zee, Jaylen Watson and Jeremy Hecklinski.
Coach Kirk Ferentz praised the cohort for its leadership potential, noting that the council will serve as a bridge between the coaching staff and the broader roster.
Season outlook
The announcement also marks the start of a three‑game home stretch to open the 2026 schedule, beginning with a September 5 matchup against Northern Illinois.
Following that contest, the Hawkeyes will host two additional home games, creating early momentum as the team looks to translate council insights into on‑field execution.
