Jeremy Durost announced his resignation as the head coach of the Penobscot Valley girls soccer program, ending a tenure that reshaped the team’s profile in the state’s Division D landscape.
During his stewardship the Howlers captured three straight Class D state championships and added a Class D North crown in 2022, a run that placed the program among the most dominant short‑term forces in recent memory.
Why the Decision Came
In a statement released this week, Durost said the decision was driven by the mounting demands of his full‑time positions as a classroom teacher, athletic director and recreation director, which together left him with insufficient bandwidth to devote to the soccer side of the role.
He confirmed that he will remain on the sidelines for the boys basketball squad, while also continuing to mentor his own daughters in recreational soccer, a personal commitment that has been a constant thread throughout his coaching career.
Looking Ahead
The move signals a strategic refocus for Durost, who plans to channel his extensive experience into the basketball program while preserving family ties to the sport. Colleagues and players alike praised his leadership and expressed confidence that his next chapter will be as impactful as the last.
