Indiana University’s football program has secured a verbal commitment from four‑star defensive end Myles Smith, a prospect who will join the Hoosiers’ 2027 recruiting class.
Smith, a standout at Farmington High School in Michigan, arrives as the highest‑rated recruit in Indiana’s current class and is ranked No. 246 overall among high school seniors.
The 6‑foot‑3, 260‑pound end had been courted by a dozen scholarship programs, including Oklahoma, Michigan, Missouri and Kentucky, before narrowing his focus to Bloomington after an official visit in May.
A Defensive Line Poised for Growth
His pledge marks the first defensive‑line commitment in this cycle and adds to a defensive front that has already seen eleven signings over the past two seasons, as well as impact transfers such as Chiddi Obiazor and Tobi Osunsanmi from Kansas State.
Last year the Hoosiers topped the Football Bowl Subdivision with 129 tackles for loss and ranked second nationally with 46 sacks, a performance that head coach Curt Cignetti says gives the line a chance to become a decisive edge.
Cignetti praised the talent on the roster, noting that the new additions could help the defense maintain its recent dominance and push the team toward a winning season.
