The Buffalo Sabres have officially signed forward prospect Jake Richard to a two-year, entry-level contract, a move that locks the 21-year-old into the organization through the next two seasons.
College Career Highlights
Richard spent three seasons at the University of Connecticut, where he developed into a reliable offensive weapon, recording 32 goals and 88 points in 84 appearances. His breakout sophomore year earned him a spot on the NCAA Hockey East Third All-Star Team, underscoring his rapid ascent.
Path to the Professional Ranks
The Sabres’ agreement includes a clause that could see Richard suiting up for the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League next year, a stepping stone that many prospects use to adjust to the pro game before earning a full-time NHL roster spot.
General manager Kevyn Adams praised the deal, noting that Richard’s blend of size, work ethic and collegiate production fits the team’s long-term vision for depth at the forward position.
A Look Ahead
If the Rochester Americans decide to deploy him in the upcoming AHL season, Richard will join a roster that has historically served as a proving ground for Sabres prospects, offering him a chance to translate his college success into professional minutes.
The contract also reflects the Sabres’ continued investment in scouting and developing talent from diverse geographic backgrounds, a strategy that has yielded players from the Northeast to the Southeast.
