Lubbock Independent School District has named Marcus Limon its new head baseball coach for the 2026‑27 season at Estacado High School, tasking him with revitalizing the Matadors program.
Limon arrives with a résumé that blends collegiate excellence and professional experience. At Wayland Baptist University he earned All‑American status and was named Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, a performance that paved the way to a signing with the Minnesota Twins organization.
His coaching journey has spanned several West Texas districts, including stints at Brownfield ISD, Frenship ISD, Wellman‑Union ISD and Midland ISD, where he honed a reputation for player development and disciplined practice.
A Familiar Voice in the Athletic Department
Mike Meeks, Lubbock ISD Executive Director of Athletics, said Limon’s passion for student‑athletes and deep baseball knowledge made him the clear choice for the role.
Principal Angelica Wilbanks echoed the sentiment, noting that Limon’s familiarity with the school’s traditions and pride will help preserve the program’s identity while pushing it forward.
Returning to Alma Mater
In a brief statement, Limon expressed enthusiasm about returning to his alma mater. “I’m excited to give back to the community that shaped me,” he said, adding that he will begin duties immediately as the district prepares for the upcoming football and baseball seasons.
Beyond the field, Limon is a father of five — Riley, Arianna, Harper, and twin sons Michael Hector and Callum David — who will join him as the program settles into its new chapter.
Looking Ahead
With the 2026‑27 school year on the horizon, the Matadors are poised to blend experienced guidance with fresh energy, aiming for competitive play in both baseball and the accompanying football season.
