Rockwall eyes state title after 5-2 win
Rockwall High School's baseball team is just one win away from capturing the state championship after a 5-2 triumph over Keller in the first game of the 6A Division I state semifinals.
The matchup, played at Horner Ballpark, saw the Rockwall offense strike early, with Reid Overstreet driving in the first run in the bottom of the second inning after a grounder and an error.
Brock Shouse followed with a single to center that brought Overstreet home, giving the Wildcats an early lead.
Keller, the top-ranked team in the area, managed to plate two runs in the fifth inning, but the rally was sparked by an error that allowed the visitors to cut into the deficit.
Rockwall's starting pitcher, Hudson Holt, weathered the challenge, navigating a tense fifth inning before being pulled after reaching his pitch limit in the seventh.
Coach Barry Rose emphasized the team's need to bounce back, and the Wildcats answered by adding two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, shifting momentum.
The victory also highlighted Rockwall's defensive resilience, having out‑battled Waxahachie earlier in the tournament, another powerhouse hitting team from the D‑FW area.
With the series set to continue on Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Wildcats aim to close out the championship run at Horner Ballpark.
