A decisive early surge
The Colonels struck first in the third inning, plating two runs before exploding for six in the fourth, a burst that put the outcome beyond reach.
Spencer Bargo was the catalyst, launching a two‑run homer that stretched the lead to 5‑0, while E.J. Allen contributed a timely base hit that drove in additional runs.
Jeremy Shope, whose squad captured the KHSAA Baseball State Championship a year ago, praised the team's cohesion, noting that the players executed the game plan with precision.
Road to the state tournament
With the victory, the Colonels improve to 38‑3 on the season, while Knox Central finishes at 28‑7. The team now turns its attention to the state tournament, where they are slated to meet the Apollo Eagles on Friday, June 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Legends Field.
