OHSAA Expands 2026 Baseball Tournament to Eight Thursday Semifinals

Akron and Canton venues split games, with a single Sunday championship to preserve schedule flexibility

The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has unveiled a revised schedule for the 2026 State Baseball Tournament, spreading eight semifinal contests across two sites in Akron and Canton to mitigate the risk of weather interruptions.

Semifinals Distributed by Division

Division VI and Division I will meet at 7 17 Credit Union Park on Thursday, with games slated for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for Division VI and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. for Division I. Meanwhile, Division V and Division III semifinals will be held at Thurman Munson Stadium, also on Thursday, at the same morning and late‑afternoon slots. Division VII and Division II contests shift to Friday, each occupying the 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. windows for Division VII and the 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. slots for Division II.

Four state championship games are set for Friday at Credit Union Park, while the Division VII finals will follow at the same venue on Saturday at 4 p.m. Division II finals close the Saturday slate at 7 p.m. A solitary Sunday game will conclude the tournament, featuring the Division IV championship at 10 a.m.

Flexibility Built Into the Calendar

The adjustments were designed to provide a buffer for rain delays, allowing the tournament to shift games without compromising the overall timeline. If the schedule holds, no further contests will be played at Thurman Munson Stadium after Friday, underscoring the OHSAA’s effort to streamline logistics while preserving competitive balance.

Tim Stried, a longtime spokesperson for the association, said the new format reflects a careful balance between athlete safety and the tradition of delivering a full slate of high‑stakes matchups.
