Scouts and coaches gathered at Lexington County BallPark on May 23 for the Palmetto Blacksmiths Scout Day, a pro‑style workout that put South Carolina’s emerging talent on display.
The day’s agenda combined a 60‑yard dash, bullpen sessions tracked by TrackMan, defensive evaluations and batting practice with high‑resolution ball‑flight analysis, giving participants a comprehensive performance snapshot.
Fastest 60‑Yard Dash Times
Brayden Simpson of Broome, SC, set the pace with a 6.40‑second dash, followed closely by Carter Kelly from Fountain Inn High at 6.53 seconds. Mason Phelps of Lexington and Alex Clamp from Lucy Beckham rounded out the top four with times of 6.71 and 6.74 seconds respectively.
Mid‑tier performances were also notable; Dale Pearson of Midland Valley High posted a 6.77‑second dash, while Jack Willis of D. W. Daniel High and Will Nations of Lexington each clocked 6.81 seconds, tying for sixth place.
Beyond raw speed, the event underscored the depth of talent in the region, with a long list of prospects — including Johnathan Cosmopoulos, Fredo Hernandez, Jackson Ownbey, Owen Smith, Briggs Talbert, Antonio Hernandez, Cooper Hodges, Allen Hegler, Corbin King, Banks Head, Phillip Euper, Finn Corley, Luke Seaberg, Theo Lima, Tanner Novosel, Seth Taylor and Caleb Lott — taking part in the full workout.
The Palmetto Blacksmiths organization continues to leverage these metrics to connect players with collegiate programs and professional scouts, reinforcing its role as a key conduit for baseball development in the Southeast.
