Manhattan College’s men’s basketball program received a boost as head coach John Gallagher announced the signing of incoming junior guard Ben Tweedy for the 2026‑27 season.
A Promising Addition
Tweedy, a 6‑4 guard hailing from Rockhampton, Queensland, brings a blend of Australian championship experience and collegiate success in the United States. He will join the Jaspers after two seasons at Colgate University, where he emerged as a reliable scorer and playmaker.
During his time at Colgate, Tweedy logged a career‑high 28 points against Loyola Maryland and helped the team in multiple scoring bursts, averaging 9.4 points per game while leading the squad in scoring on six occasions. He also dished out 85 assists and recorded his first double‑double in a game against Lafayette.
Beyond the Box Score
The guard’s shooting efficiency was notable, hitting 42‑of‑109 from three‑point range and finishing eighth in the Patriot League for 3‑point percentage. He also shot 64‑of‑91 from the free‑throw line, grabbed 101 rebounds and collected 19 steals over the season. His minutes per game averaged 19.3, and he converted 55 of 131 shot attempts.
Off the court, Tweedy will pursue a bachelor's degree in business marketing at Manhattan, a decision that aligns with his ambition to blend athletic performance with academic growth.
Looking Ahead
Coach Gallagher expressed confidence that Tweedy’s experience and work ethic will strengthen the program’s depth and competitiveness. The coaching staff anticipates that the Australian’s familiarity with high‑pressure games, including state‑championship environments, will translate into clutch performances for the Jaspers.
With a blend of international pedigree, statistical contributors, and academic focus, Ben Tweedy is poised to make a meaningful impact as Manhattan prepares for the upcoming season.
