María Sánchez Pitarch, a 5‑foot‑8 guard from Rocafort, Valencia, has officially committed to the Canisius College women's basketball program for the 2026‑27 season.
The Spanish native arrives after a two‑year stint at Northeastern University, where she logged 3.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game during the 2025‑26 campaign and helped the Huskies to 12 games of 20 minutes or more.
A Competitive Edge for the Griffs
Sánchez Pitarch brings a decorated résumé, including two Spanish national championships and a regional MVP award, as well as a standout performance in the 2023‑24 Junior National Championship tournament where she averaged 17.5 points per game.
Head coach Tiffany Swoffard said she is thrilled to add a player with a competitive mentality and proven point‑guard experience, noting that Sánchez Pitarch will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
The Griffs hope the incoming guard’s skill set and championship pedigree will bolster their backcourt as they look to climb the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.
