Van Lith’s WNBA Tenure Hits Another Roadblock
The Connecticut Sun announced on Thursday that they have waived Hailey Van Lith, marking the second time this year the guard has been released by a WNBA franchise. The move follows a brief stint with the Sun earlier in the season, during which she appeared in nine games and averaged 8.1 points per contest.
Van Lith’s professional path began when the Chicago Sky selected her with the 11th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. After a modest two‑month tenure that yielded 3.5 points per game across 29 appearances, the Sky opted to part ways with the former college star, clearing the way for her subsequent signing with the Sun.
A College Career Defined by Movement and Growth
During her collegiate years, Van Lith navigated a journey that took her from Louisville, where she began her career, to LSU, where she played under head coach Kim Mulkey, and finally to TCU for a fifth‑year stretch. Across those stops she compiled a career average of 15.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists, showcasing a versatile skill set that attracted multiple programs.
Her time at LSU was particularly notable, as she thrived in Mulkey’s system, contributing to the Tigers’ resurgence in the national spotlight. The move to TCU was motivated by a desire to find a fresh environment after a down‑year in scoring, a decision that allowed her to reinvent her role on the court.
While the WNBA chapter appears to be closing, Van Lith has not announced any definitive plans for the next phase of her basketball career. Industry observers suggest that interest from overseas leagues and potential opportunities in player development could shape her upcoming endeavors.
