Rutgers University announced Tuesday that former SEC standout De'Mauri Flournoy will join the Scarlet Knights as Director of Recruiting Operations, while veteran conditioning specialist Ryan Cabiles was named Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Flournoy, who capped a distinguished college career at Georgia with a fourth‑place finish in the SEC in three‑point shooting, brings not only a sharp shooting pedigree but also a proven record of leadership within the conference.
During her time at Tennessee and Georgia she served on the SEC Leadership Council and chaired the university’s Inclusive Excellence and Women’s Leadership Committees, experiences that Rutgers hopes will deepen its recruiting outreach and campus engagement.
Cabiles arrives after a decade of high‑performance work at Syracuse, where he directed strength and conditioning for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs and helped guide each squad to three Final Four appearances while producing multiple NBA and WNBA draft picks.
His résumé also includes stints with the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers and the Portland Fire, as well as certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the Titleist Performance Institute, credentials that underscore his commitment to cutting‑edge athlete development.
Beyond the court, Cabiles and his wife Kara are parents to two young children, Kendall and Peyton, a detail that adds a personal dimension to the new coaching duo.
A New Era of Recruiting and Conditioning
The additions signal Rutgers’ intent to sharpen its competitive edge in the Big Ten, leveraging Flournoy’s extensive network in the Southeast and Cabiles’ NBA‑level conditioning protocols.
Athletic director Gary Redus II praised the hires, noting that the blend of recruiting acumen and performance science aligns perfectly with the program’s long‑term vision.
Fans can expect a refreshed approach to talent acquisition and player development as the Scarlet Knights look to climb the conference rankings in the upcoming season.
