Former Church Site in Clyde Township Transformed into Soccer Sports Complex

Private investor purchases 6.8‑acre property, plans multi‑use facility

A private investor has acquired the former Grace Baptist Church site in Clyde Township, Michigan, for $325,000, closing the deal in cash on May 20.

The 6.8‑acre parcel boasts nearly 14,000 square feet of building space, comprising a main sanctuary, two smaller sanctuaries, a gymnasium, a recreation hall, classrooms, conference rooms, a nursery and a youth center, as well as a four‑bedroom caretaker residence and a maintenance barn.

The property had been donated to the Eastern Michigan Christian Foundation (EMCF) after the congregation ceased operations, and EMCF oversaw its sale, marking the second church‑property transaction the foundation has facilitated.

The proceeds have helped EMCF push its endowment beyond $2 million, enabling support for seven faith‑based nonprofit organizations across eastern Michigan.

Community Impact

Karen Palka, executive director of A Beautiful Me and a representative of an EMCF member organization, said the transition represents a tangible way to channel resources into programs that serve local families.

Plans call for the renovated complex to host soccer leagues, tournaments and training programs, turning the former sanctuary into a multi‑use sports hub that can accommodate teams of all ages.

In addition to the playing fields, the site’s existing facilities will be repurposed to include locker rooms, meeting spaces and spectator areas, ensuring the venue can host a variety of community events.

Local officials say the project could generate jobs during construction and provide a steady draw for youth sports, potentially boosting nearby businesses.
