A Fresh Face in Tampa Bay
The Tampa Bay Lightning announced today that they have signed forward Benjamin Rautiainen to a three‑year, entry‑level contract, locking the 20‑year‑old Finnish prospect through the next three seasons. General manager Julien BriseBois praised the move as a “strategic addition that bolsters our depth and adds a dynamic element to our forward group.”
Rautiainen capped a breakout year in the Finnish Liiga, leading all players with 77 points in 59 games and earning the Lasse Oksanen Award as the league’s top regular‑season player. His 25 goals and 52 assists helped Tappara clinch the championship, marking the first time since the 2007‑08 season that a player has topped the 70‑point threshold in the league.
The forward also represented Finland at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he contributed two goals and four points en route to a silver‑medal finish. Internationally, Rautiainen has logged 112 games for Tappara, producing 36 goals and 111 points, and a career playoff tally of three goals and 11 assists across 27 appearances.
Drafted in the fourth round, 108th overall, of the 2025 NHL Draft, Rautiainen joins a Lightning organization that has a history of developing European talent. His signing reflects the club’s continued focus on scouting the global market and integrating skilled, versatile forwards into their roster.
Looking Ahead
Coach Jon Cooper hinted that Rautiainen could see action on the second or third lines depending on matchups, but emphasized that the player’s work ethic and hockey IQ will earn him minutes. “He’s a smart player who can adapt quickly,” Cooper said. “We’re excited to see how he fits into our system.”
The Lightning’s management believes that adding a player of Rautiainen’s caliber not only strengthens the depth chart but also provides a potential spark for the team’s power play, which has been a focal point of recent seasons. With the contract in place, the club now turns its attention to training camp, where the Finnish forward will have the opportunity to showcase his abilities alongside NHL veterans.
