The Kansas baseball team opened its NCAA regional with a 6-3 victory over Northeastern on Friday night at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kansas.

The Jayhawks, the top seed in the Big 12 and the conference’s regular‑season and tournament champions, struck first, plating three runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Augusto Mungarrieta’s two‑run homer and Dariel Osoria’s solo shot sparked the early rally, while Tyson LeBlanc added a solo homer in the fifth to push the lead to 4-0.

Northeastern answered with a run in the sixth, cutting the margin to 4-3, but Kansas responded in the eighth with RBI singles from LeBlanc and Cade Baldridge to extend the score to 6-3.

Reliever Boede Rahe then delivered a shutout ninth inning, preserving the lead and securing the win.
