Under the direction of head coach John Sosa, the side has compiled a 15‑2‑0 record in the Heartland Division and posted a flawless 6‑0‑0 run through the regional qualifiers. Their unbeaten streak even extended to a 2‑0‑1 showing at the MLS NEXT Fest in Arizona last December, where they displayed depth and tactical discipline against a variety of opponents.
Road to the championship
The path to the final has been marked by a series of tightly contested games. After eliminating Oaks FC from California with a 6‑2 victory, Sporting City edged Utah’s Sparta United Soccer Club 3‑2 before surviving a penalty shoot‑out against New York’s Syracuse Development Academy. A 2‑0 win over New Jersey’s Players Development Academy secured their place in the championship match, where they will meet the winner of the opposite bracket.
The MLS NEXT Academy Division, launched for the 2025‑26 season, brings together roughly 230 clubs and 25,000 players, offering a regional schedule that aligns with high school calendars.
