Dane Weber, a four-star quarterback from Temecula, California, announced his commitment to the University of California, Berkeley, choosing the Golden Bears over a crowded list of suitors.
The recruit, ranked No. 19 among quarterbacks and No. 293 overall in the class of 2027 by Rivals, brings a blend of arm strength and mobility that caught the attention of Cal’s coaching staff.
A Dual-Threat Skill Set
During his first two seasons as the starter at Chaparral High School, Weber threw for 6,314 yards and 68 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,522 yards and 25 scores, showcasing a rare combination of passing and running prowess.
Beyond the football field, Weber also competes in track, further underscoring his athletic versatility.
Andrew Ivins, a scouting director at 247Sports, praised the prospect as a "tough and competitive signal-caller that just makes things happen," a sentiment echoed by Cal’s new coach Tosh Lupoi, under whom Weber becomes the first quarterback pledge.
Weber’s decision marks a milestone for the Golden Bears, as it represents the first quarterback commit since Lupoi’s arrival and comes after a fierce recruitment battle that involved 27 other programs.
The youngster’s recruitment was not a quiet one; he officially visited Cincinnati during the first weekend of April, and UCLA extended a scholarship in late January, with an official visit slated for June 19.
Recruiting Landscape
The commitment underscores the growing competitiveness of the Pac-12’s recruiting footprint, with the Bears fending off interest from traditional powerhouses and emerging programs alike.
