Sheridan High School announced this week that Chance Cleveland will take over as head baseball coach, bringing a blend of playing experience and coaching background to the Yellowjackets program.
A Coach With Deep Roots
Cleveland, who starred at Watson Chapel before playing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, returns to Arkansas after stints as a coach at Beebe. His journey from high school standout to college player and now to head coach reflects a lifelong connection to the sport in the state.
The Yellowjackets boast a storied history, having captured state championships in 2015, 2017 and 2019 under former coach Mike Moore. That legacy, combined with strong community backing, provides a solid foundation for Cleveland to build upon.
Philosophy and Immediate Goals
Cleveland says his role is not to overhaul the program but to refine it, emphasizing accountability, discipline and character. He weaves faith and personal development into daily practice, aiming to instill habits that will serve players both on and off the field.
The team finished the spring season with a 13‑14 record under interim coach Eddie Paul Woodall, a result that underscores the competitive nature of the schedule and the potential for growth. With a mix of seasoned seniors, rising upperclassmen and younger talent, Cleveland sees an opportunity to blend experience with fresh energy.
