A Late Surge at Foley Field
The Liberty Flames entered Foley Field in Athens, Georgia, facing a Boston College squad that had kept them at bay for most of the game. After seven innings the scoreboard read 3-2 in favor of the Eagles, but the Flames were not ready to surrender.
In the ninth inning, Liberty mounted a two‑run rally that flipped the momentum. Tanner Marsh’s clutch hitting set the stage, and Jaxon Sorenson delivered the decisive RBI that put the Flames ahead.
Marsh finished the game with three hits, including his team‑leading 18th double of the season, while Sorenson contributed two hits and two runs batted in. Both players have been key contributors throughout a campaign that now stands at 42‑19 for Liberty.
The victory also marked the ninth NCAA Regional appearance in program history and the first under second‑year head coach Bradley LeCroy. LeCroy praised the team’s resilience, noting that the Flames have won ten games this season when trailing after seven innings.
With the win, Liberty improves to 42‑19 on the year, while Boston College falls to 36‑22. The Flames will look to carry this momentum into the next round, where they will meet another formidable opponent.
