A unanimous vote paves the way
Member schools and the Salem administration reached a collaborative agreement, and the conference superintendents approved the addition by a 7‑0 vote, underscoring a consensus that the realignment serves the best interests of all parties.
Under the agreement, Salem will compete in every sport sponsored by the Northeast 8 except football, while continuing to schedule football games within the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
Football’s new home
The Eastern Buckeye Conference, which has operated with seven members since Jefferson left after the 2022‑23 school year, will now welcome Salem back into its football lineup, preserving a longstanding rivalry and ensuring a full slate of matchups.
The realignment comes as Minerva, Carrollton and Marlington prepare to launch a separate league for the 2028‑29 academic year, prompting Salem to seek a new home after those schools announced their departure plans.
