Maja Bigovic Joins Florida Gators Women’s Basketball

Montenegrin center brings international experience to Gators

The University of Florida announced the addition of Maja Bigovic to its women's basketball roster, a 6‑5 center whose roots trace back to Montenegro.

Coach Tammi Reiss highlighted the recruit’s mobility, agility and versatility, noting that Bigovic can score in the paint and dominate the boards.

Bigovic arrives after a stint with the Montenegrin National Team and a series of international tournaments, including the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre‑Qualifying Tournament in Mexico where she helped her side secure third place.

In that competition she posted averages of 8.3 points and 6.0 rebounds, numbers that echo her earlier performances at the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship and the 2022 U20 European Championship, where she again averaged 8.3 points and roughly 6.9 rebounds and contributed to a division‑winning campaign.

Her professional résumé includes seasons in the First A Women’s Basketball League of Montenegro with ZKK Buducnost Bemax Podgorica and a stint in the Hungarian B Division with Darazsak Sportakadmie, giving her exposure to high‑level European competition.

Off the court, Bigovic’s sister Mala will join the University of Delaware, adding a familial connection that could foster cross‑state rivalries in the coming years.

Looking Ahead

Reiss expressed confidence that Bigovic’s blend of size and skill will deepen the Gators’ frontcourt depth and provide a fresh spark as the program eyes a strong finish to the season and beyond.
