Katherine Legge makes history in the Memorial Day Double
Katherine Legge made headlines this Memorial Day by becoming the first woman and the first British driver to tackle the double‑header that pairs the Indianapolis 500 with the Coca‑Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The 45‑year‑old’s entry was secured at the last minute by Live Fast Motorsports, a small operation that decided to run her car just days before the events, a move that set it apart from the multi‑year planning typical of other teams.
Legge ultimately finished 31st in the 600‑mile stock car race, marking the oldest driver ever to complete the event and underscoring the challenges faced by a newcomer in a highly competitive field.
A last‑minute gamble pays off
The achievement also placed her in a rare piece of NASCAR history, as she became only the second driver in the modern era to attempt the Memorial Day Double, a feat last accomplished by Robby Gordon in 2004.
While the team has announced it will skip the upcoming race in Nashville, it plans to stay on the schedule for the upcoming event at Pocono Raceway, where rookie Daniel Dye will take the wheel, continuing the team’s effort to build momentum.
Legge herself has not locked in a full Cup Series calendar for 2026, but she hinted at the possibility of running a handful of races in 2025, leaving open the prospect of further historic attempts.
