Bowling Green State University announced this week that head coach Todd Simon will remain at the helm through the 2030 season, a move that locks in the most victorious coach in the program’s Mid‑American Conference era.
Simon’s tenure has already produced a 20‑win season in his first year, the first tournament victory for the Falcons since the 2018‑19 campaign, and a roster that blends Division II standouts with power‑five transfers.
The Recruiting Surge
Among the newest additions are freshman forward KJ Torbert, wing Geu Ateny and guard Talan Staley, while transfers such as Javontae Campbell, Marcus Hill and DaJion Humphrey have already earned conference accolades, including Campbell’s Defensive Player of the Year award.
The class also features power‑five prospects Javon Ruffin from Colorado and Justin Thomas from Florida State, as well as Javontae Campbell, who arrived from a JUCO program and quickly became a defensive anchor.
Despite the influx of talent, Simon’s postseason record remains a sticking point; his overall tournament ledger sits at 11‑9 and he has yet to capture a conference tournament title, finishing no higher than fifth in the MAC standings during his best season.
The university hopes that the extended contract will give Simon the stability to translate recruiting successes into deeper NCAA tournament runs and perhaps finally break through the conference barrier that has eluded him.
