Ohio State Unveils New Heritage Stripes Uniforms for 2026 Season

The redesign honors decades‑old tradition while introducing modern metallic accents

Ohio State has rolled out a fresh set of home and road football uniforms that revive the program’s iconic “Heritage Stripes” on the sleeves, marking the first major redesign since 2006.

A legacy reborn

The stripes, first popularized by coach Woody Hayes, have resurfaced on the Buckeyes’ kits during several championship eras, including the 1954, 1968, 1970 and 2002 title‑winning seasons. Their reintroduction taps into a visual lineage that fans have associated with the university’s most celebrated moments.

The new apparel adds a subtle metallic sheen that mirrors the team’s signature silver helmets, while a decorative festoon pattern now lines the interior of the back collar. An updated nameplate font, rendered in block letters, replaces the previous custom Nike typeface, giving the jerseys a cleaner, more classic appearance.

Despite the visual refresh, the silver helmets and pants remain unchanged, save for a small Block ‘O’ embossing on the front bumper. The vintage Block ‘O’ also anchors the base of the scarlet home jersey, the white road jersey and the black alternate, ensuring continuity with the program’s traditional color scheme.

The uniforms have already made appearances on the national stage, having been worn during the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship and in subsequent playoff runs through 2022. Their most recent outing was a loss to Clemson in the 2019 Fiesta Bowl, a game that highlighted both the nostalgic appeal and the modern performance expectations of the design.

Athletic director Ross Bjork emphasized that the redesign is more than aesthetic; it is a tribute to the program’s storied past and a statement of confidence in the future. “Connecting today’s players with the legacy of those who wore these stripes before them is a powerful narrative,” he said.
